PPAT has been a member of the Occupational 安全 and 健康 Administration (OSHA) 培训 Institute 教育 Center Program, a network of nonprofits selected by OSHA to provide formal health and safety 培训.

One of the critical components of OSHA 教育 and a required course for 若干澳门最正规网网站登录PPAT的安全证书 is the OSHA Course #7505, Introduction to Incident Investigation. The course covers basic 事件调查 procedures and incident analysis techniques, providing students with the skills to conduct effective 事件调查s at the workplace.

"I firmly believe a good investigation course ties the [safety and health] program together,小约翰·鲁普说, Lead Instructor at the EMU 职业安全与健康教育中心 since 2012 and a Chair on the Board of 健康 and 安全 Compliance and Appeals, 密歇根州(MIOSHA)自2019年以来.

Rupp's health and safety experience started at General Motors in the early 1980s when he was asked to help with OSHA efforts to teach ergonomics, 从那时起, he's played a major part in the evolution of OSHA and spent the past 40 years involved with the organization, including acting as the Assistant Director of the UAW 健康 and 安全 Department and one of the earliest instructors at OSHA's education centers.

"My wife retired three years before me and once I retired we traveled overseas. After returning we were sitting at the kitchen table and she looks across the table and told me, “你毁了我的退休生活, 你得去做点什么.“因此,这就是我所做的."

Incidents refer to worksite fatalities, 受伤, 疾病, and even close calls. The investigation is the first step towards determining why an event occurred and how it may be preventable in the future.

事件调查 以前被称为事故调查, and OSHA made this minor yet effective tweak to emphasize that almost all worksite fatalities, 受伤, 疾病是可以预防的.

Instead of chalking up workplace incidents as mishaps or accidents, workers and organizations can interpret them as lessons to improve our workplaces for the future,

“调查人员, the best way to honor victims and their families is to turn tragedy into something that helps prevent any future incident,拉普说。.

The course covers an introduction to basic 事件调查 procedures and accident analysis techniques, 其中一部分是由OSHA创建的六步流程. One of the key lessons of the process is focused on identifying the root causes of fatalities, 受伤, 疾病, or close calls rather than the trap many organizations fall into, 找出谁是罪魁祸首.

澳门官网正规网站登录把它分成两部分, 事件调查, 这就是收集信息, and then there's incident analysis— what are the related causes,鲁普解释道。.

Both 事件调查 and analysis have challenges that the course helps students overcome.

作为一名调查员, you have to gather information and set aside any biases or conclusions,拉普说。. "It's human nature to search for the action of an individual, 这就产生了确认偏误或后见之明偏误. So, 一开始, 澳门官网正规网站登录谈了很多关于调查员的特点, the techniques of an investigator to gain information in an interview, and how to stay in that mode until you've gathered enough information to start putting it all together."

当涉及到分析部分时, the course focuses on serious injury or fatality (SIF) incidents, but the analysis philosophies can be applied to smaller incidents to prevent near-misses from becoming SIF incidents.

"Any circumstance that could have resulted in SIF or significant property damage is a gold nugget if it didn't happen,鲁普解释道。. "That's a gold nugget and deserves a high-level investigation because we can often identify things that cause or contributed and take corrective action. Maybe, it's a fix, 培训, procedure, more oversight, so it never happens."

The virtual course illustrates investigations in a memorable way, students will have the opportunity to roleplay through a real-life scenario and learn how those involved in the 事件调查 should navigate those events.

"We have a scenario of a fatality from the late eighties,鲁普解释道。. “所以人们得到了足够的信息, 分成小组,各自寻找信息, 面试的人, 等等......."

This provides students with a simulated experience of how to deploy an effective accident investigation, 作为分析方面的总结, the course also provides a start-stop-continue exercise chart, which can help attendees apply the overall principles learned in the class to their workplace.

Incidents are an unfortunate but everyday occurrence in the workplace, 但是通过适当的准备和教育, we can approach these incidents objectively and strive to make them less likely tomorrow.

“你能拥有的最好的安全职业,”鲁普说. “是在30年后你准备退休的时候吗?, 每个人都问:“这些年来你做了什么?? 什么都没发生!“但如果澳门官网正规网站登录做好了准备, 如果澳门官网正规网站登录做好了自己的工作, 如果澳门官网正规网站登录做了危害分析, 培训, 澳门官网正规网站登录的沟通, 如果澳门官网正规网站登录征求每个人的意见, 工人和经理, I'd love to sign off after 30 years of never having anything happen. 那真是一份好工作."
